"The long (and uncertain) way from anxiety-related behaviors to genes"

Abstract :

Starting with a seminal work where we have mapped the first genomic region controlling fear-related behaviors in rats, our team developed a long-term strategy that aimed at identifying the molecular bases of anxiety-related traits and disorders. After constructing a new genetic model of anxiety (the SLA16 rat strain), its behavioral and neurobiological characterization, coupled with gene expression studies and genome sequencing, revealed a far more complex scenario, which opened new avenues to investigate a variety of processes, including learning, attention deficit and hyperactivity.
