"Understanding AMPA receptor structural dynamics at synapses"
Résumé
AMPA-type glutamate receptors (AMPARs) are tetrameric cation channels that are central to synaptic transmission and plasticity at excitatory synapses. Accumulation of AMPARs at synaptic sites mediates synaptic potentiation, a process that ultimately underlies learning. Recent progress in AMPAR structural biology and receptor simulations using computational approaches together with electrophysiology have resulted in a deeper understanding of the mechanics underlying operation of this dynamic signalling machine (the AMPAR).
In this talk I will discuss recent insights into the structural dynamics of AMPARs and how these could play a role in synaptic anchoring. A key function of the AMPAR N-terminal domain (NTD) in subsynaptic localization of the receptor will be discussed.
